Tonight Christine and I riveted on the right middle skin. She did a great job. Take a look at the curved under piece on the back part of the skin. She couldn't use the swivel flat set because we couldn't remove the clecos without creating a gap between the skin and rib. She used the rigid flat set instead. I absolutely know I would have dented the skin had I tried it. The only complication was with the bottom-most rivet behind the spar. There isn't enough space for the pop rivet called out in the plans. I had to pry out the flange and skin to get the pop rivet in far enough to set it. Also, the plans call for a universal rivet above the pop rivet. There is no way to buck it. Rather than risk damaging the spar doing something stupid, I opted for another pop rivet. We still need to set a couple of really hard to get to rivets near the rear spar. I am also not sure if I need to install the F-805 and F-806 rib/stiffeners at this point. The manual does not make this clear. |
