The above sequence of photos don't do justice the amount of work required to install the landing gear. I tried to do it by raising the fuselage but the gear legs weight too much to hold them in place with one hand while installing bolts with the other. I ended up inverting the fuselage (again). I had to bevel the outside wear plates to get them to fit under the bottom skins. The nuts inside the landing gear boxes were a pure joy to work on. It is impossible to get a socket on them so I had to hold on a combo wrench in an almost upright position. I could not think of a way to get a torque wrench on them so I tightened them until there was an even 1/32" gap between the wear plates. These aren't AN nuts so I haven't the slightest idea what I would have to torque them to anyway. |
