Tonight was latch night. I wasn't very comfortable with the instructions for installing the nylon blocks for latching the baggage door. The instructions call for layering tape on the side walls and close the latching mechanism to mark the tape and use this to drill the holes. I wanted more accuracy than this provides because I wanted it so that when the latch is closed, it pulls the door tight. I climbed into the fuselage and wiggled the nylon pieces while Christine put slight pressure on the locking mechanism in the close direction. Once it was in the right position and the latch closed, I exited and strapped the door flush once again. The from the outside of the side skins (the firewall and back baggage bulkhead) I drilled the mounting holes. Previously I had marked the walls with where the holes should be drilled. Here are some pictures of the process. It worked well for me. |
