Yesterday I sanded the cowl with 80-grit almost to the point where the primer was almost all off. Only the pinholes and low spots had primer. I then added a very thin layer of SuperFil to the entire cowl. I did this by laying it on fairly thick and this slicing it off using a squeegee coming at it at an angle - like one of those razor blade commercials. This took almost all of it off except what was in the pinholes. Today I sanded off the SuperFil again with 80-grit. I primed the cowl and this time the results were a lot better. The primer went on wet rather than seeming to be soaked up by the fiberglass. There were no pinholes. I noticed that I had missed a couple of spots sanding which might mean I will need to sand it and then touch it up with primer tomorrow. No biggie. I also put on another coat of primer on the canopy skirt. Today's Lesson: SuperFil does a great job of filling pin holes in fiberglass but is a lot of work. |
