I didn't take pictures over the last couple of days mainly because I haven't had a chance to spend more than an hour at a time working on the plane. I chose the capacitance type of fuel level senders when I ordered the wing kit. The way it works is that two parallel plates are mounted on ribs. The dielectric is the fuel. Capacitance changes as the fuel level changes. First I match drilled the ribs with holes for mounting the plates with a #19 drill . I then made them 1/4" using my unibit. Then I dimpled the plates and nutplates for flush rivets with the factory heads on the plates' back sides. The plans called for countersinking but the plates are really thin and I don't want to take the chance of something coming loose in the tank. Countersinking worked fine. I then screwed on the plates and clecod their ribs to the skin. I also clecod the stiffeners that are near by. One of the stiffeners interfered with the outboard plate to I cut a notch in the plate and cut away a little of the stiffener. See the top right picture above. I was able to get a 3/16" clearance between the plate and the stiffener as per the plans. |
