Today I dimpled and countersunk main and rear spars and ribs. I then installed the conduit and then the wiring for the landing light. I hooked it up to my drill battery and it worked! Them electrons are really amazing. The landing light is grounded to the mounting plate. If there is ever a problem with it, I installed it so that I can get to it from the landing light hole or from the wing tip. I then used a file and Scotch Brite wheel to do the "scarf joint" between the two top skins. Since the skins overlap about an inch and a half, there is a small lip that stick up behind the fuel tank. The scarf joint is simply filing the two skins down where they overlap to minimize this lip. I suppose it turned out OK. According to my schedule, it is time to order the fuselage. Another reason to order now is to beat Van's annual price hike. Hmmh. Let's see. I'll have to cash in the kids' college fund. Just kidding honey. |
